With a combination of style, comfort and power, the GTi, is only for those who have special appretion for cars and they’Re capabilities. Amatures won’T under the art under this baby’S hood. Nor can a wannabe make out what it’S made off. Only a true driver knows, the Beauty, of the beast

Owned one for 10 years before i send it for scrap, first car i owned that long so it says alot. I have my fun driving it but same time spent many money to keep it running fit for ten years. Repair along cost me more than $40,000 over 10 years

What I like
fun to drive even when it was stock yet has many potentials to enhance the power. many aftermarket parts are readily available too.

What I do not like
expensive repair. even a 6 speed DSG will fail and its not cheap to repair. wear and tear is not as bad for daily drive. Oil leak is a common problem too, Fortunately there are many many VW AUDI specialist workshops in singapore now

The Golf GTI is one of the best sports hatches in the market. Acceleration is superb. Handling is great. Interior is well appointed and electronics are updated. Cabin space is good for 4 adults but gets too tight for 5. Price is slightly high for a face-lifted car. Fantastic car to drive around town and just enjoy the drive.

The car has the power it needs when its needed.
Cruising in a traffic free expressway would be a breeze.
The features in the car and comfort of passengers are amazing.
I would buy this hot hatch if only I waited a few more months for it's launch..

What I like
The interior and features.

What I do not like
the 7 DSG gearbox..

This car needs no introduction. It's the flagship of VW and a highlight of the pinnacle of technologies VW has to offer.

While there are many comparision between the GTI with previous MKs online, I will get straight to the cockpit with my take on the driving experience as a non-biased driver with no prior GTI driving experience onhand.

What I like
- Gorgious exterior
- Spacious interior
- Excellent driving dynamics
- Engine and transmission
- Tonnes of safety features and technology

Acceleration: This car is not about acceleration but rather the overall package. If you are looking for a car that will catapult from start to 100km/h at neck-braking acceleration, you are better off with a WRX or EVO than the GTI.

Upon a full wide-open throttle, the GTI seemed unwilling and lectargic at first and only "wake up" around the early mid-rev there the maximum torque starts to kick in. By then your "competition" might have taken off. At first I suspect maybe it's due to the eco setting and I switched to sports mode. Some improvement, but still doesn't give you that initial sense of urgency that the WRX or EVO gives. Perhaps this is deliberate to give the DSG gearbox less stress.

However, the stock brakes of the GTI were commendable, especially after rounds and round of punishment. The brake were able to hold despite you feeling the tyres slipping due to round and round of stressing.

Technical track: The GTI performs remarkably well in tight turns and corners, as the GTI accelerates, the steering dynamics begin to change and I felt the steer having very quick response at cornering speed but becoming more forgiving at higher speeds, it's is after the run that I realise a technology called "Progressive steering" that adjusts the senstivity of the rack at given speed. The thing about the "sports mode" is you don't really feel the difference after you switch it, but onces you start you spirited driving, you sweared the suspensions were stiffer and bumpier and toned down as you driving into cruising speed.

What I do not like
- Expensive in Singapore
- Too much spoonfeeding tech makes one a sloppy driver
- Plenty of self-doubt whether it's the car or you that drives well.

Conclusion: The GTI is fast, quick, responsive and handles like a charm. You can't really complain but that is where the problem lies. You pushed the GTI to it's limits it the corners and it can take these limits without complaining. You whack it hard and drive like a madman, the GTI will still take it. All the misgiving you do on the road, the GTI forgives and assists. And it's a big problem. You may feel that great sense of awe and might think you are actually a good driver being able to gun down the corners easily, you may think you are destiny's child....but when the honeymoon period fade you will begin to wonder:

Are you driving the GTI, or is the GTI driving you?

The GTI is packed with tonnes of safety driving dynamics, from ESP, EDL, EDTC, XDS, ASR to DDC. The car asorbs whatever shitty mistake you've done in the road or the tracks and made it looks like you're a brilliant driver. If you ever see one MK7 GTI that crashed, the driver must be suicidal.

The bottomline is ANYONE can drive a GTI. Whether you are a freshman, P-plater, NSF, housewife, elderly teacher, pensioner, or a just regular guy. Cause at the end of the day, the car is actually driving you.

Now that the secret is exposed, if in the event I was outrun by a GTI, I'll just give a pat to myself and say, "it's the car, not the driver".
