Decided to give this most interesting Korean luxury sedan a go after driving the ES250 which is a serious contender for the replacement of my aging Jag. I must say Asian manufacturers now dominate consumer electronics and are muscling into European territory for automobiles. The Genesis looks serious. The large grill reminds me of Aston Martin ( or Ford ! ) but it sites well with the face. It is a reasonably handsome car and Hyundai designers may have taken some cues from BMW. The interior is well built but not to Lexus or MB standard but well executed and had fairly good quality feel. The features are what that sets it apart. Soft close suction doors, ventilated seats, blind spot monitor, HUD display, smart cruise control. Very well loaded with options which only higher end models from MB and Lexus gives. The drive was smooth and powerful with a 3.8 v6. Handled well and felt rock steady and quiet on the AYE at above the speed limit. Braking had a strange feel but got use to it after a while. I must say it is a tempting proposition. If only Komoco knows how to market it, I think it can make a mark.

What I like
Fully loaded features. Good ride and insulation. The HUD is very cool and the well executed interior. A quality product with not too much ostentation. You can humbly tell people that you drive a Hyundai! 5 year warranty with 3 year service is as expected but 5 year service should be better.

What I do not like
Komoco should try to distance this car from the run of the mill Hyundai's which mind you, are looking better than some Japanese brands and drive very well. But the price on the Genesis @250k, should come with better showroom, sales environment and service.

Amazing stance. Very stylish and if not for the engine cover which sports a slanted "H", one is unlikely to tell its a Kim Chi.
Yes, its a little bit of a me-too from the usual luxury brands like Jag/Lexus/Beemer, but very well put together- unlike the typical copy cat from PRC (looks like RR with a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine)
Strong engine, well tuned suspension, 8 speed box, intricately crafted interior.

What I like
What the Germans have, this baby got it all at a much lower price tag.
For those who can get past the brand image (or lack of), this is a great car!

What I do not like
I like everything about this car, but it what others do not like that matter;

1) 230K for a Korean car does not sit well with brand snobs; folks prefer to pay same for a 520 (4 cylinder turbo charged entry lvl 5 series)

2) Large engine cap --- lets face it. The target customer will not be those after the German/English/Jap 3.5-5.0L customers (which could not care less about the road tax). This car is likely targeting potential C-Class / 3 series / IS250-ES250 segments, who may be a little sensitive to road tax (psychologically, at least). This may be its archilles heel ?

Had a chance to bring the new Genesis for a spin round Leng Kee area. It was a joy ride...or should I say joyful ride.

Exterior looks great and a bit deceiving without the normal 'Hyundai' badge. Maybe it's a departure from norm and to signal the arriving of Hyundai as a credible auto manufacturer. Perhaps like the luxurious brands of 'T' and 'N'.

First sight and feel of the interior was also great....feel of luxury and full of gadgets....really full lf bells and whistles.

What I like
1. The exterior looked great and unmistakably a mark of luxury.
2. The interior looked even greater and sitting inside in the driver's seat makes one thinks one is in a first class seat.
3. Super quiet, super smooth accleration, no doubt aided by the 8-speed 3.8 l engine.

What I do not like
1. Brakes were rather soft and spongy. Maybe I drive hard and brake hard. I did not try the sports mode though. It may have been different.
2. Huge engine cc. The Genesis comes in 2 engine size and the 3.8l is already the lower end. Many would be put off the huge engine size and corresponding roasd tax.

When I indicated that I would recommend to buy the car, I must add the caveat that the friend would have to be really rich to asfford putting down more than 100k cash for th car, and rezdy to pay for the roadtax and petrol that would come with owning this car.
