It looks straight out of the future, and probably is. Kia's new Niro electric looks nothing like its predecessor, and that's a good thing, because underneath that sheet metal its a much improved car.

What I like
Bold design, and a fairly sensible cabin designed to take some of the rough and tumble of everyday life.

The drivetrain of the Kia Niro electric also gets you as much power as you can while still being a Cat A COE car, which, combined with the instantaneous torque, mean you should be dashing off at the lights with no issue. Fighting for lanes should be easy without having you cough up too much of a price.

And the car also offers you the option to select between different levels of regenerative braking, so you can set it up as you wish.

Quiet levels are excellent for such a small vehicle.

What I do not like
Nil.

It's right below the cap for Cat A electric cars, and it's mighty handsome - futuristic and aggressive, if just a tad overdone. But how is it to drive.

What I like
It's fast, though not jack rabbit enough so anyone can sit in from a petrol car and feel right at home.

Use the steering wheel paddles and set it to zero regenerative braking and this thing will keep coasting so driving is a minimal effort affair. And the cabin feels solidly put together - essential in a car where you can hear everything.

Steering wheel looks classy and premium, and seat upholstery feels decent.

Front charging port so you don't have to bother about which side the charger is at: Just drive straight into the lot.

What I do not like
Not as affordable as some of the cheapest EVs out there.

The Kia Niro Electric is asking for a fair bit compared to the growing all-electric crossover options now available here in Singapore. But it is a poper quality product.

What I like
Take for example, its strong and futuristic styling. It's sleek enough, despite offering so much to look at, and that strong 'chin', interestingly-shaped head lights, as well at the vertical lights at the rear all make the Niro stand out from everything else on the road.

The interior is nothing as futuristic, though. If you've been in any recent Kia everything here should be pretty familiar to you. It is all well put together though, which is something shoppers of the segment will appreciate more.

Ride is comfortable enough, nothing special to point out really, other than the fact that the steering will weight up a bit if you take turns too quickly.

But the best thing about this car is how it is able to cost for what feels like forever without loosing speed if you turn the regenerative brakes off. This alone makes the Kia Niro really one of the few cars out there that feels properly effortless to drive, even in heavy traffic.

What I do not like
Lower sections of the body sport a high-gloss black finish which I'm sure will get scratched up very quickly. Be careful when you're washing them.
