It's longer, taller, wider, more spacious and powerful. These are just some of the things which the eight generation Honda Accord is. For a start, the wheelbase has stretched 60 mm from the 2007 model to 2800 mm, and also 25 mm wider to 1580 mm. Inside, passengers get a total of 955 mm of rear legroom - 11 mm more than previously.
Customers can choose from a range of three newly-designed petrol engines - a 2.0 or 2.4-litre inline-four, or a 275hp 3.5-litre V6.
Though all three power plants have Honda's i-VTEC, only the 2.4-litre block will feature Double Overhead Camshafts (DOHC) while the others have Single Overhead Camshafts (SOHC) fitted.
All engines will be mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.Kah Motor expects to sell 600 units of the 2.0 and 2.4-litre models, which produce 156 and 180 horsepower, respectively, and 25 units of the V6 version.
The range-topping 3.5-litre engine also features new technology to aid fuel efficiency. Called "Variable Cylinder Management", or VCM, the system decides between three modes of operation to power the car, running on six, four or three cylinders, depending on the situation.
During start-up, acceleration or a hill climb, all six cylinders will be used.
For moderate-speed cruising and at low engine speeds, it will utilise just three, and four when drivers cruise at higher speeds or encounter mild hills.
All 08 Accords will also come with drive-by-wire systems to optimise throttle response.
Owners of the new Honda Accord will also enjoy the benefits of the Honda Accord Advantage Programme, which provides complimentary 24-hour roadside assistance in Singapore, guaranteed next day service appointments even if bookings are full and also a free grooming at every scheduled servicing.
Prices (all with COE) for the 2.0-litre Accord start at S$99,800 and S$106,800 for the 2.4-litre, while the 3.5-litre V6 costs $125,800.
