Polestar - a name that has recently made a big bang in the automotive industry. Welcome to the world of Swedish performance.
Many may have unheard of the brand, but the firm is responsible for giving us one of the most exciting sedans in recent years - the Volvo S60 Polestar. The concept packs a wholesome 508bhp, and the ability to dispatch the century sprint in just 3.9 seconds. It made the world rethink Volvo.

Polestar now has 35 employees, with sales operations in more than 50 countries.
Last year, the motorsports collaboration scaled the greatest height thus far, claiming a trio of titles, including Manufacturer, Team and Drivers championship. For 2013, the Volvo Polestar team will continue to field its best technologies and talents at the tracks, with a total of five race-prepped S60s.
With its sight set firmly on expansion, Polestar is also excited to launch its pilot road car project, based on the Volvo S60 Polestar concept. This is the first road car engineered by the team at Polestar, and will set to launch in Australia mid this year.
Find out more as we speak to Magnus Skeppstedt, Managing Director of R&D, Polestar Performance.
SGCM: It is inevitable that Polestar with Volvo is seen as a competitor to AMG with Mercedes-Benz, as well as the BMW M division. The latter two has already achieved significant recognition in the industry. How will Polestar establish its distinctive edge against the competitors?
MS: Polestar has its roots deeply stemmed from motorsports involvement. And it is also through motorsports that Polestar continues to hone its capabilities and technological excellence, and deliver these aspects for greater uses.
SGCM: Tell us more about the exciting S60 Polestar concept which we have caught pictures and footages online.
MS: One of the S60 Polestar's strength lies in its all-condition usability (jump to the video below to see how it was tested extensively in varying conditions).
The technical know-how that was learnt from the race tracks has also been utilised in the road car, making it the fastest road going four-door sedan
SGCM: How likely are we to see Polestar performance to be offered in each of Volvo's current lineup?
MS: Right now, the sportiest of Volvo's accessories is the R-design. However, those are limited to aesthetical purposes only, with no enhancements done to the performance or handling of the car. We believe this is where Polestar comes into play. However, we also have to take into consideration the different conditions of each market.
