Mercedes-Benz confirms 2017 G550 for U.S.A

The 4x4 'squared' edition takes inspiration from the monstrous six-wheeled G63 6x6. Engineers started with the standard G550 and introduced an even more hardcore suspension system, boasting more than 432mm of ground clearance.
The upgrades are much more extensive than a simple lift. Dual-springs and two dampers help keep the front end stable over extreme terrain, while track has been broadened by 229mm in the front and 254mm out back.
A 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 delivers 410bhp and 610Nm of torque, delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive. Torque is set at 50:50 between the front and rear wheels, but three locking differentials ensure that forward movement can be maintained even if just a single wheel gains traction.
Designers did not stray from the G-Class' iconic exterior form, unmistakable for more than three decades. The interior has caught up with modern times, treating drivers to Mercedes-Benz' latest technology suite and an 8-inch infotainment system.
