An Audi R8 driver has been arrested for drink driving after ploughing through several lamp posts along Bras Basah Road this morning.

Traffic was disrupted along Bras Basah Road on Tuesday (November 22nd) morning after a car ploughed through a pavement and toppled several lamp posts. Magazine Editor David Ting, 43, who was sending his wife to work, witnessed the damage wrought by a white Audi R8 V10 at around 7:50am. The accident occurred just outside the Cathedral of Good Shepherd, which hosted its first mass on Sunday after undergoing a three-year restoration project.
The Audi driver, a 31-year old man, was arrested for suspected drink driving, said a police spokesman. He suffered minor injuries and was later taken to Singapore General Hospital for treatment in a Singapore Civil Defence Force ambulance. The Straits Times understands that the driver had lost control of his vehicle while travelling on the right-most lane of the four-lane road.
Mr. Ting said the driver was nowhere in sight when he witnessed the aftermath of the accident, although a police car and two officers were at the scene. "They had also cordoned off the right lane with cones," he added. The front of the car was completely smashed, as seen from a video taken by Mr. Ting's wife Joey Lee. Another motorist who drove past the accident, Mr. Kannan Chandran, said road maintenance works were ongoing at around 9:00am. The 57-year old, who works at a publishing firm, noted that three lamp posts were felled by the Audi.
The Land Transport Authority first tweeted about the accident at 7:09am, and later warned motorists to avoid the right lane. The police said they were alerted to the accident at around 5:56am. Investigations are ongoing, added the spokesman.
