Hyundai joins the hybrid party

The Elantra LPI, which is based on the Elantra (or Avante) family car, will use a combination of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with a set of lithium-ion polymer batteries to power the vehicle.
Although Hyundai doesn't expect the Elantra LPI to be a runaway success like the Prius, with targeted sales figure of 7,500 for the first 12 months, the car will be a springboard for the company's first petrol-electric hybrid due next year, which will be based on the Sonata.
Buyers interested in acquiring one will be disappointed to know that the management at Hyundai currently have no plans to export the Elantra LPI.
