COE premiums rise across all categories for the first bidding round of August

In the first round of bidding for August, COE prices rose across all categories.
The rise in COE premiums across the board could be due to the fall in the quota available across categories A, B and C. The recent news of the drop in quota available for the August-October period may have prompted more shoppers to make their new car purchases during these two weeks.

Cat A COE - Premiums rise by $301
Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, increased by $301 (0.9%) and ended at $33,000 this bidding round.
The premium from this bidding round has now risen to 4% higher than the 12-month trailing average, and falls into the 72nd percentile of the premiums of the last 12 months.
The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 100%, this figure has averaged 46% for Cat A in the last 12 months.
Cat B COE - A jump of $2,101 for the first round of August
Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, took a larger jump this bidding round, by $2,101 (6%) and ended at $37,102 this bidding round.
Despite this jump in premiums, the Cat B premium is still 1.1% lower than the 12-month trailing average. The premium for this round has climbed to the 48th percentile of the 12-month trailing average.
The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 113%, far higher than the 12-month average of 37%.
Cat C COE - COE for commercial vehicles climbs $212
Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, increased by $212 (0.9%) and ended at $24,100. The premium from this bidding round is now 4.5% lower than the 12-month trailing average.
Cat E COE - Premiums rise $1,501 despite the rise in quota
In Cat E, the open category, premiums increased by $1,501 (4.3%), closing at $36,502. With the rise in premiums for Cat E, the premium for this bidding round stands at 6.4% below the 12-month trailing average and is at the 27th percentile of the premiums of the last 12 months.
The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 66%, which is higher than the 12-month trailing average of 57%.
