BMW has announced a second generation model for its popular BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. The new four-door coupe captures the imagination with its enhanced driving dynamics, sharper design language, and a host of innovations in the areas of operation and connectivity.

Modern functionality is a central theme in the Gran Coupe's design. Comfortable access to the rear compartment, five full-size seats, and a variable-usage load compartment ensure the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe retains its model specific skillset in everyday driving and on longer trips.

At the Gran Coupe's front is the large and vertically prominent BMW kidney grille
Measuring 4,783mm in length, 1,852mm in width and 1,442mm in height, the new Gran Coupe has distinctive proportions combined with dynamically stretched coupe lines. It is 143mm longer, 27mm wider, and 53mm taller than its predecessor.

Bold lines combined with a three-dimensional structure are the defining elements of the vehicle's expressive front end. At its centre is the large and vertically prominent BMW kidney grille that transmits a feeling of assured presence. The slim full-LED head lights come with U-shaped fibre-optic daytime running lights, which can be specified with Adaptive LED Head lights.

Horizontal lines are the dominant influence at the rear end. The low-slung, muscular stature of the car is accentuated by vertical aero lips at its outer edges and a black finish for its lower edge. The stylishly darkened full LED rear lights extend well into the flanks.

The new 4 Series Gran Coupe justifies its sporting credentials with a performance model at the top of the range. The BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupe is powered by a potent 369bhp in-line six petrol engine, yet boasts a fuel consumption level of 11.9km/L.

The addition of a mild hybrid system to the M440i increases dynamism and efficiency. The 48V starter-generator offers an extra 11bhp when accelerating, and allows for energy regeneration when braking. All 4 Series Gran Coupe variants are offered with a quick-shifting eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.

Structurally, the new 4 Series Gran Coupe has been imbued with exceptional dynamic assurance via model specific suspension mounting, tuning, and geometry. The two-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle have been engineered to work in conjunction with BMW's lift-related dampers, reducing weight while increasing rigidity. The system reacts to minor imperfections in the road surface accordingly, producing high levels of comfort.

Inside the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, the high-set centre console and flowing surface structure run from the instrument panel into the door panels, creating a cocooning feel in the front seats. The centre console also houses the buttons for the Driving Experience Control unit, electromechanical parking brake, and model specific gearshift lever.

Sport seats and a Sport leather steering wheel come as standard. In addition, driving pleasure and comfort can be enhanced with optional items such as seat ventilation, Vernasca and BMW Individual leather trim options, the M Sport package Pro, and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.

More than 40 driver assistance functions are available on the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. As standard, front collision warning, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning, Park Distance Control, Reversing Assist Camera and Parking Assistant will be fitted. Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View can be specified as an option.

There is also access to a range of highly advanced digital services such as the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Digital Key, Connected Music and Remote Software Upgrades.

The BMW Operating System 7 that comes as standard across all variants provide extended possibilities for drivers and passengers alike. Customers can adjust the control interface for the situation at hand, be it on the control display touchscreen, multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, voice control or optional BMW gesture control.
