Travelling to the U.S.A? You'll want to keep your eyes peeled for this blue little number, as it could soon be the new look for police vehicles across the land of the free.

The all-electric police pilot vehicle you see here, based on the 2021 Mustang Mach-E SUV, is currently participating in tests as part of the Michigan State Police 2022 Model Year Police Evaluation. The submission by Ford seeks to demonstrate that a vehicle with an electric powertrain can deliver strong performance and stand up to demanding police duty cycles.

The development of all-electric, purpose-built law enforcement vehicles comes as part of the firm's $40.5 billion investment in electrification through 2025, paving the way for electric police fleets in America.

Ford will use the pilot programme testing as a benchmark while it continues to explore purpose-built electric police vehicles in the future.
