DC petrolheads, rejoice! The main trailer for The Batman 2022, starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role, just dropped yesterday, and the newest Batmobile features even more heavily in its low-slung, wall-bashing glory.

Yesterday's release comes on the back of the DC FanDome Teaser released in August last year. In the deliciously cryptic vein of most teaser trailers, we managed to get a few angles of the Batmobile at that point - one from the diagonal rear, with hot blue flames spitting out of a massive exhaust, as well as directly from the front - narrow headlights shining straight into the camera.

This time round, though, we've finally gotten a proper, full-on shot of the side profile and entire silhouette of the car.

The latest Batmobile is quite a marked departure from the previous ones of the 21st century. While the most recent two iterations from Ben Affleck and Christian Bale's Batmans were more tank-like - Transformers of machines with hermetic-looking cockpits - the Batmobile now much resembles an American muscle car: Wide stance, sharp angles and low-slung body galore.

Eagle-eyed fans truly dying for a closer look at the machine, however, would have noticed that LEGO had unveiled a Technic set of the Batmobile early this month alongside New York Comic Con 2021, comprising 1,300 pieces (including two light bricks - red and yellow in colour - to illuminate the car).

But don't be fooled by the more conventional-car silhouette of this latest version: In one of the most exhilarating shots towards the end of the new trailer, one of the baddies is seen laughing in both relief and glee as the Batmobile appears to have been swallowed by a fire. Moments later, however, it flies out, flames still licking voraciously at its roof and side body panels, and revs forward to slam into the getaway car. It's safe to say the latest film won't be losing the anti-hero's unique manner of dealing with crime.
