In the first round of bidding for September, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices rose across all categories. 

The significant decline in available COE supply for this quarter could have driven up the premiums across the categories, despite the lower number of bidders for this round compared to the last.

Cat A COE - Still climbing upward

Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, continued the jump they took last session with a $1,000 (1.9%) climb this session, ending at $53,709 this bidding round.

This sustained rise for Cat A sees premiums for the category currently standing at 20.6% higher than the 12-month trailing average.

The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 56%. This is higher than the 12-month average of 40% for the category.


Cat B COE - Also still headed upwards

Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, continued to climb for the sixth consecutive time this bidding round.

The premium for Cat B rose by $2,591 (3,2%) this session to reach $82,801. Premiums for the category have now climbed to reach 50.5% above the 12-month trailing average.

The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 43%, the 12-month average for this category stands at 40%.


Cat C COE - A $1,500 rise this session

Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, rose by $1,500 (3.7%), closing at $42,001.

The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 88%, the 12-month average for this category stands at 82%.


Cat E COE - This session's strongest climber

Cat E, the open category, continued to show the strongest climb this session, jumping by $3,000 (3.5%) this session, to close at $88,000.

The premium for this bidding round now stands at 55% above the 12-month trailing average.

The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 62%. The 12-month trailing average for this figure is 60%.


Prevailing Quota Premium


The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
