Porsche will soon be offering its customers the option to get their cars with 3D-printed seats.

The new 3D-print bodyform full bucket seat has been tested at various events, and is now available as part of the new Performance Parts offering from Porsche Tequipment for various Boxster, Cayman and 911 models.

Porsche states that its medium term is to have the seats adapted to the individual body contours of each customer
From February 2022 onwards, it can also be ordered from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur as a standard feature and will additionally be integrated into the Porsche Car Configurator.

Beyond just sporting a unique look, the seat has parts of its cushion and backrest surfaces - those sections produced using a 3D printer - available in three different rigidity grades, allowing the seat to be further customised to suit the customer's specific needs.

The seat is made from expanded polypropylene, bonded to a breathable comfort layer consisting of a mixture of polyurethane-based materials. The use of 3D printing here additionally offers the benefit of having no emissions generated from the use of adhesives. And the outer skin of the seat is made of Race-Tex, a non-slip material that will offer plenty of support, while its unique perforated surface enables improved passive ventilation.

Porsche states the new seat can be retrofitted in vehicles that have already been delivered, and some models can even have the full bucket seat fitted on the passenger side. The assembly process takes just a few minutes at a Porsche Centre.

It is also planning another customisation option for the medium term, with the 3D-printed bodyform full bucket seats being adapted to the individual body contours of each customer.
