BMW has revealed the first images of The 8 X Jeff Koons art car ahead of its premiere at the Pace Gallery in Los Angeles, U.S.A.
The art car is based on the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe, and only 99 examples will be built, at a rate of four a week. On the outside, the car gets a finish that combines a total of 11 different exterior colours, ranging from blue to silver as well as from yellow to black.
The 'POP!' on each side as well as the vapor thrust imagery are said to symbolise the power and speed of The 8 X Jeff Koons. A multi-colored interior is also offered, comprised of high-end materials, fine leather and a cupholder lid with an edition badging and the artist's signature.
There's also seats that are made up of the striking red and blue which reflects the colours of superheroes from the comic book universe as well as those of the company’s high-performance unit BMW M.
The art car has been created after many days from Jeff Koons, spent at BMW's Dingolfing plant spanning over a period of numerous months in discussion with the BMW employees involved. And the car is claimed to involve over 200 hours of manual work, where colour samples were applied with magnifying glasses.
Each example of The 8 X Jeff Koons will come with a large-format certificate signed by Jeff Koons, which in addition to Oliver Zipse's signature also contains the individual Vehicle Identification Number of the respective vehicle. In addition, owners will also receive a dust jacket, designed by the artist, for the driver's manual. One further signature of the artist is let into the cupholder panel, penned in the Bavarian blue from the BMW logo.
