Kia invests in green energy for EV charging

Drivers of Kia electric vehicles in Europe can now drive in the knowledge that the electricity used to charge their cars is generated from renewable sources.
The new development comes as Kia will now determine the amount of energy used by its European customers for charging on the Kia Charge service and app, and purchase an equivalent number of megawatt-hours through Guarantee of Origin certificates.
These certificates will allow Digital Charging Solutions GmbH, Kia's charging solutions partner in Europe, to boost the amount of green energy available on the electrical grid. Kia states its renewable energy certificates will come from wind power sources. An independent registry will authenticate the green origin of each unit of power produced.
Kia Charge, in partnership with Digital Charging Solutions, currently gives drivers access to one of the world’s largest public charging networks with over 300,000 charge points across 29 European countries.
