This is it: The 2023 Honda Civic Type R. It is indeed a good day for VTEC fans worldwide as Honda unveils the final design of its much anticipated Civic Type R, also known as the pinnacle of Honda performance.

Having set a new production car front-wheel drive track record at the Suzuka Circuit, the new Civic Type R has already secured its title as best performing Civic Type R ever.

The new Civic Type R sports an even more muscular stance with a lowered ride height and increased width
As with all Type Rs that went before it, the new Honda Civic Type R has plenty of vital ingredients designed to make it a superb performer on and off the race track.

For starters, a new lightweight and highly rigid body helps improve high speed stability and provide scalpel sharp responses to attack those apexes.

Honed to perfection at the world famous Nurburgring, the Civic Type R takes its addictive driving feel up a notch with enhanced suspension and steering performance.

Honda's award winning turbocharged 2.0-litre engine is paired with an improved six-speed manual transmission and rev-matching for an even more connected and intimate feel between the driver and car. No exact performance figures have been provided as yet, although Honda does state that this will be the most powerful Civic Type R in the model's 30-year history.

The new Civic Type R has also increased in length, and is more importantly now lower and wider than before, to give it a more aggressive stance.

Honda's engineers have ensured that the design of this new car is integrated harmoniously with advanced aerodynamics to achieve well-balanced downforce as well as lower levels of drag.

Muscular fenders are also a stand out feature on the new Civic Type R, flaring tautly over the lightweight wheels wrapped in wider tyres. The new more aggressive front bumper design also features a honeycomb grille mesh. Larger front fender grills and a new side sill design behind the front wheels enhances airflow efficiency.

A redesigned rear spoiler and a reshaped rear bumper houses signature three round exhaust outlets and new rear diffuser.

Following tradition, the new Civic Type R will be available in the iconic Championship White exterior paint colour - a Type R exclusive finish which gets Honda fans weak at the knees.

Four other colours will be offered, namely Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Grey Pearl.

Moving on, Honda's designers have also ensured that the interior properly supports any intense outing on the race track. This is helped by the presence of iconic Type R red seats, carpet, trim, and a serialised Type R plate, which is now placed on the dash.

Suede-like upholstery with a high friction coefficient will reduce body slippage when the driver is experiencing high-G driving situations.

The new Honda Civic Type R also comes with technology that enhances the driving experience.

A new +'R' driving mode will alter the display layout in the instrument cluster, allowing drivers to obtain information instantly, with a graphic engine rpm display, rev indicator lights and gear position indicator placed at the top. This will sit above a multi-information display that can highlight any other information as desired by the driver.

In addition to that, a Honda LogR data logger provides real time information on mechanical movements of the vehicle and behaviour resulting from the driver's input. Additional details of the 2023 Civic Type R will be provided come September 2022.
