Volkswagen has unveiled the Golf R here at the 2023 Singapore Motor Show.

The performance hatchback comes equipped with Volkswagen's 2.0-litre EA888 powerplant, tuned here to produce 315bhp and 420Nm of torque.

You'll be able to finish your own Golf R with this mighty rear spoiler by opting for the R-Performance Package
This engine is coupled a seven-speed dual-clutch system and the firm's 4Motion all-wheel drive system, governed in turn by the firm's R-Performance torque vectoring technology, all of which allow the car to sprint from zero to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

Those performance figures should be more than enough to scare. But for those that want something extra with their Golf R, the car will additionally be offered here with an optional Akrapovic titanium sport exhaust system and an optional R-Performance Package.

This R-Performance Package will finish the Golf R with a larger, prominent rear spoiler for extra downforce on the rear axle, 19-inch wheels in the Estoril design and two additional driving profiles.

Signature blue strip that runs across the front of the Golf R matches the car's blue calipers
The first of these, a 'Special' mode, is optimised for the elevation changes and sweeping curves of the Nurburgring.

While the second is a dedicated 'Drift' mode, which sends maximum possible torque to the wheel located on the outside of the bend to provoke oversteer as opposed to a more neutral handling.

Look around the rest of the Golf R once you've had your fill of that spoiler and exhaust and you'll note that it also comes with redesigned bumpers and air intakes up front, as well as a diffuser at the back, finished in high-gloss black.

A premium Harman Kardon sound system and R-specific decorative trim will feature in the cabin of the Golf R
That is of course, if the blue strip that runs across the front of the vehicle, as well as the car's blue brake calipers don't first catch your attention.

The interior of the Volkswagen Golf R also come with R-specific decorative trim in Carbon Grey, alongside sports seats at the front, complete with the 'R' logo and upholstered in Nappa leather. The Golf R will also sport a premium Harman Kardon sound system within.

The Golf R is expected to go on sale in Singapore in the second quarter of 2023, and will be offered here in three colours - signature Lapiz Blue, Deep Black and Pure White.
