In the second round of bidding for March, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums climbed across all private car categories. Premiums for Cat A in saw the largest change amongst the private car categories, jumping by $5,503 this session.

The recent launch of the facelifted Honda Jazz, a popular nameplate here, may have led to the rise in interest for Cat A COEs.

Cat A COE - The sole private car category to see a major move this session

Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, or electric vehicles with a power output of up to 110kW, saw a sizable jump this session, climbing by $5,503 (6.3%) to end at $93,503.

This jump puts the current premium at a new high, with premiums for this category only reaching $90,589 in November of 2022, and $92,100 in January of 2013.

This climb means premiums for the category now standing at 15.8% above the 12-month trailing average.

The total number of bids submitted this session exceeded the number of unsuccessful bids this round by 29%, lower than the 12-month average of 37% for the category.


Cat B COE - A $700 climb this session

Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, or electric vehicles with a power output of more than 110kW, saw a less dramatic climb this session. Premiums for the category rose by a total of $700 (0.6%) this session, to reach $116,201.

This jump sees premiums for the category now standing at 10.2% above the 12-month trailing average.

The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceed the quota available by 46%, higher than the 12-month average figure for this category of 39%.


Cat C COE - Easing down from last session's high

Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, slipped this session by $5,712 (6.3%) to close at $85,389.

The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 51%, lower than the 12-month average for this category of 110%.


Cat E COE - Holding steady

Cat E, the open category, largely held steady this session, rising only by $20 (0.02%). This move has brought the current premium for the category to $116,020.

This new climb means current premiums for the category are now at 8.2% above the 12-month trailing average.

The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 92%. The 12-month average for this figure for the category is 71%.


Prevailing Quota Premium

The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
