BMW is set to offer a special long-wheelbase version of their 5-Series executive sedan exclusively for the Chinese market

The long-wheelbase versions of the 5-Series dedicated to the Chinese market has been lengthened by 140mm, and the car now measures 5039mm in length, with the wheelbase subsequently measuring 3108mm, for increased leg room.

The long-wheelbase 5-Series is built in BMW’s Chinese plant in Shenyang in cooperation with a large number of regional partners, and BMW has given the car "a high-comfort rear seat bench" that was developed specifically for this model, for maximum comfort.

Among the features offered for back seat passengers in the LWB 5-Series include four-zone automatic air-conditioning, rear-seat entertainment, a cooling box as well as electrically adjustable sun blinds on the rear side windows and a folding table integrated in the backrest of the front passenger's seat.

In China, the 5-Series LWB is available with three engine options. The entry level model is the 523Li with a 2.5-litre engine that produces 204bhp, followed by the 528Li with a 3.0-litre unit producing 258bhp. Finally, the range-topping 535Li has a turbocharged 3.0-litre engine with 306bhp.

The 5-Series long-wheelbase version will be officially launched at the Auto China 2010 show which will be held in Beijing from April 25 to May 2. China is BMW’s fourth largest market for passenger cars, with 90,536 units sold in 2009.
