Nissan is to sell rebadged Mazda 5 MPVs as part of a cooperation agreement between the two Japanese carmakers

31 Jan 2011 | International News : Japan

Nissan and Mazda already have an existing agreement where the two Japanese manufacturers already exchange produces for sale, with Nissan offering its Expert van for Mazda to sell as the Familia, while Mazda provides Nissan with its Bongo van that is rebadged as the Vanette.

Now, the two carmakers have announced that Mazda will give Nissan the Premacy MPV, also known as the Mazda 5 in export markets, to be resold in Japan, starting from May this year. Mazda said that the Nissan version will be "clearly differentiated" from its own version.

The deal is expected to be in effect for the Japanese market only, with neither company planning to export their rebadged vehicles overseas. Mazda has also not mentioned whether Nissan will provide yet another vehicle in exchange for this deal.
