In a gruelling eight-hour drive, the sporting participants proved that fuel economy was well-achievable in realistic driving conditions, with the top three teams all surpassing 28km/litre and over 93 per cent of participants completing the Challenge with a record exceeding 20km/litre of fuel, in the route to and from Kawasan Hentian Sebelah Kulai and Port Dickson, Malaysia.
The winner of the challenge, 38-year-old Chu Yew Fai of the winning father-and-son duo said, "It is our first time participating in a fuel economy challenge. Although it was tiring, my father Chu Chuen Sun and I had fun. More importantly, we picked up many tips to achieve better fuel efficiency with the Nissan Latio. This Challenge also allows us to be creative in saving fuel and the experience to drive up as a convoy is indeed very memorable. We are pleased that the Nissan Latio allows us to travel over 28km/litre of fuel under realistic driving conditions."
Mr. Ron Lim, General Manager, Sales and Marketing of Tan Chong Motor Sales who flagged off the convoy at 5.30am together with Tsugio Matsuda and presented the prizes to the top three teams in the Challenge, said, "The Nissan Latio is a fuel economical car and we are glad that our Nissan Latio and Latio Sport owners were able to achieve such commendable results. On average, the drivers completed the drive with 24km/litre of fuel. We believe that after today's event, the participants have a better understanding of fuel economy and will continue to leverage and hone these skills in their everyday driving."
At the prize presentation held at the Nissan Mega Roadshow at Vivocity, the victorious Chu family walked away with the grand prize worth more than $5,000, consisting of $3,000 petrol vouchers, $650 service vouchers, $800 cash and a one-night-stay at the Siloso Beach Resort Roof Garden Suite worth $560.
