Consigning your car is allowing a dealer to sell the car on your behalf, but retaining legal ownership of the car until it gets sold. Here are some of the reasons you should put your car up for consignment:

• You decide on the selling price of the car
• You can choose to leave your car at the dealer's showroom or continue to drive your car until it gets sold
• You will get someone experienced to handle the entire sales process for you from advertising, handling of enquiries from potential buyers and after-sale documentation.
• You do not need to bring your car for repair and grooming work. The dealer will handle that for you upon request from the buyer (depending on your consignment agreement)
• You only pay the dealer a commission (percentage of the sale price) upon a successful sale. Meaning, you do not have to cough out a single cent if the sale does not materialise, and the dealer will bear the costs of marketing the car
