Dakar rally is one of the toughest that challenges not only the endurance of the drivers but also their vehicles in most cases. In a bid to promote the EXP 9 F concept, Bentley is considering entering the Dakar rally in 2013, as parent company Volkswagen withdrew from the rally after winning it three times in a row in the tough Touareg.
The EXP 9 F might be based on a platform related to the Touareg. The boys from Crewe are looking into buying back all the Race Touareg rigs that were sold to private teams, complete with their 2.5-litre twin-turbo diesels producing 300hp and 599Nm of torque.
The EXP 9 F was recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and will enter production in a few years. The racing variants would be bare-bone off-roaders with a body shell that closely resembles the production model. Bentley R&D boss Rolf Frech has admitted the EXP 9F is no competitor to the famed Range Rover, yet the company aims to establish the credentials of its new 4x4 as it attempts to meet sales target of at least 3000 units a year.
