The brain behind the business is a man named Douglas and his foray into the motoring industry began in 2006. Douglas learned the ropes as a car broker, helping car buyers source and buy cars. He offered services such as finding a particular used car model to fit a budget, getting the lowest price on a new car, or negotiating with a used car seller on behalf of a client who has already set his or her eyes on a car.
With about three years of experience as a car broker and very limited funds, Douglas started 88 Motor Trading in 2009. 88 Motor Trading began its life in Tagore Lane and the business was focused on helping car sellers with consignment sales. The company was young and run by Douglas and assisted by one admin staff. To keep overheads low, 88 Motor Trading relocated to Mackenzie Car Mall later that year.
But as rental increased in Mackenzie, Douglas was forced to find 88 Motor Trading, yet another home. The move took them to Parklane Shopping Mall where the business grew, and they have since shifted to Textile Centre at Jalan Sultan, where 88 Motor Trading currently operates.
Just in case you're wondering, the reason for 88 Motor Trading's constant shift in premise is driven by the belief that overheads have to be kept low, in order to offer customers the best deals and prices. It's a tiring process but Douglas believes that only by doing so, can 88 Motor Trading's prices remain the most attractive.

Through sheer determination and strategic business development, 88 Motor Trading has become a force to be reckoned with. With an inventory of about 90 used cars, the company is confident of its ability to help buyers find the best price for a car of their dreams.
Most of 88 Motor Trading's fleet consists of consignment units and the business thrives on both existing and repeating customers. Consignment charges are reasonable and borne by the seller when the car is successfully sold. No additional costs are charged to the buyer.
Unlike some other consignment programs, customers dealing with 88 Motor Trading can be rest assured as all consigned cars are sent to its partnering workshop or STA Vehicle Inspection (depending on model of car) for a 120-Point evaluation before they are advertised for sale.
Cars sold through 88 Motor Trading's consignment program are covered by warranty upon request and the fleet of cars are maintained by an in-house grooming team. In the unfortunate event where a car suffers a major fault during handover, 88 Motor Trading will do a full refund or the customer can pick another car from its fleet of consigned cars. Even though this means losing money, 88 Motor Trading insists that its sales team provides the best services and solutions to customers, no matter the cost.
Trade-in services are also available and loans can be arranged at very reasonable interest rates. 88 Motor Trading is also a proud Land Transport Authority (LTA) Electronic Service Agent (ESA).
Douglas has since ventured into other businesses and his brother, Paul, has taken over the reins.
