The Lexus NX Turbo is finally here but there's really no reason for you to get your knickers in a knot. Reason is quite simple, really: The Lexus team has gathered all its supreme technology, concepts and pursuit of perfection to set the compact SUV in the right direction. Thus, focusing on the fact that the car features the brand's first ever turbocharged engine will be like saying the sgCarMart's Editorial Team is a bunch of peace loving flower children who succeeds in everything except matters of the heart. Everyone already knows that.
Perhaps, what you haven't realised or read about the NX Turbo is how much effort - physically, mentally and emotionally - Lexus has put in to make sure it's an 'emotional' instead of a 'rational' car. While the ultimate goal of all companies is always about growth, which Lexus has seen in the past few years, it's vital that the core significance of refinement in its cars is not lost.
Needless to say, with its distinctive looks and size that's perfect to have in a bustling cityscape like Singapore, it's a natural thought to wonder whether the NX will alienate the bigger brother, RX. But according to Kirk Edmondson, the General Manager of Brand Management of Lexus Asia Pacific Division, while isolating the RX is always a possibility, there have been cases where the NX helps customers to realise that the RX is better suited for them. As such, he explains that Lexus, in a way, sees both cars complementing one another.
But quite frankly, the more essential fact of the matter is that Lexus' spanking new compact SUV, with its new powertrain and engine displacement, will help the carmaker reach out to a new segment of customers.
Since the introduction of F Sport in early 2012 when Lexus launched the all new GS model range, it seems the Japanese marque has stepped away from its once mundane image to a now exciting, emotional and expressive identity where the majority of its customers can connect with, judging from Lexus' year-on-year increment in global sales of ten percent. As to whether you'll appreciate the more aggressive styling on the Lexus, it's entirely subjective to the individual. What we can say, though, is that the seductive SUV gives it more justice than it does in photos.
With the NX Turbo, it's probably the transition towards a new way of triggering our senses without compromising the way things are done for Lexus. For us, it's almost like the iPhone moment.
As of 8th May 2015, the NX Turbo Executive will cost you $249,000 while both the Luxury trim and the juicier F Sport will be at $264,000.
