  • Adrenaline-filled qualifying for Malaysia Merdeka Endurance race

    31 Aug 2012

Team Clearwater Racing with the Ferrari 458 took pole position, with reigning champion Petronas Syntium trailing in 2nd and 3rd.

The gruelling Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) will commence in less than 12 hours. The annual event is the only such competition in the region. This year round, a total of six teams will compete to fight for the overall glory and class win in the GT Class, with no less than 24 teams contending in the Sports Production (SP) and Touring Production (TP) classes of the race.

In the qualifying session which ended earlier in the evening, Team Clearwater Racing from Singapore managed to clock the fastest time of 2:04.108, securing the pole position for the race tomorrow. Equally hungry for victory is the Japan-based Petronas Syntium Team, who was the reigning champion for 2 consecutive years (2010 & 2011). They are looking strong in second and third position, 0.651 and 0.765 seconds from the pole setter respectively.

In SP class, the fastest time clocked was by an Aston Martin GT4 racer, fielded by Nexus Racing. Malaysia’s JC Racing came in first for TP class in their Honda DC5 – clocking a timing of 2:28.355, 4.319 seconds behind the Aston Martin GT4.

Look out for the strong fight between the SLS AMG GT3 cars from the Petronas Syntium Team as they fight to win their third MMER title, as well as the Ferrari 458s from Singapore and Italian teams, not forgetting the Hong Kong based LKM racing with their Porsche 911 GT3 R – the sole example of the highly renowned rear-engine racer on the track.
