The driver was spotted doing 20km/h more than the speed limit on the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) by officers conducting an operation. Instead of stopping when they signalled him to do so, he accelerated and whizzed off.
A police car and motorcycle pursued his vehicle along the KPE around Punggol West before the chase moved onto the East Coast Parkway (ECP). The pursuit came to an end when the motorist turned into a car park along Prince Edward Road, around Shenton Way.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the vehicle circling the car park and looking for a way out. But as the police car and motorcycle approached, the driver realised he was cornered. His vehicle finally came to a halt after colliding with the police car.
Realising the game was up, the driver got out of his car and resisted arrest. During a brief struggle, he suffered abrasions on his arms and legs.
There were no collisions with other vehicles during the chase. A police spokesman said the officers had exercised due care and avoided any risk caused to members of the public during the pursuit. Police investigations are ongoing.
