The Straits Times reported that police are viewing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage and gathering accounts from eyewitnesses to investigate how an elderly man ended up on the elevated MRT tracks between Tanah Merah and Expo stations on Saturday.

Mr. Koh Chai Seng, who is in his 70s, was believed to have scaled a railing at the platform of Expo station to gain access to the tracks, before walking about 1km along them.

At about 1:40pm on Saturday, the elderly man was found lying on the outer side of the track, in the direction of Expo MRT station. Mr. Koh was spotted by the driver of an approaching train, who immediately applied the brakes. Initially, it was believed the victim was hit, but later the claims were dismissed and established the train captain had stopped in time. An SMRT spokesman later confirmed this.

According to Chinese evening daily, Lianhe Wanbao, it was reported that a cleaner had spotted Mr. Koh pacing back and forth between benches and the platform edge at Expo station. He appeared dazed and did not respond when the cleaner spoke to him. Mr. Koh was spotted on the tracks when the cleaner returned 20 minutes later.

Mr. Koh is currently warded in a critical condition at Changi General Hospital.
