Recently we conveyed Ferrari's intentions to auction away the first F12berlinetta for Hurricane Sandy. The auction happened in Austin, Texas on Saturday alongside the F1 Grand Prix and raised a total of over $1.5 million (S$1.84 million) for the American Red Cross society.
The funds will be used to aid rescue efforts affected by the Hurricane Sandy superstorm.
While the car itself fetched $1.125 million (S$1.38 million) from a starting bid of $315,888 (S$387,705), Ferrari raised a further $345,000 (S$423,435) in donations prior to the event. During the auction, a further $50,000 (S$61,367) was raised through online and personal donations, thus bringing the total figure to over $1.5 million (S$1.84 million).
The F12berlinetta is the fastest, most powerful production car from Maranello and made its US debut at the Concours d'Elegance of Pebble Beach earlier this year.
