Matthias Mueller, CEO of Stuttgart Sports car manufacturer Porsche, has his foresight set on a production target of 200,000 units per annum by 2018. Other than increasing production capacities at the plants, Mueller needs to expand the current line-up.
Recent reports have affirmed the delay of a small roadster, which was schedule to slip under the Boxster. It may have some links to the abolishment of base-sharing Bluesport roadster project by Volkswagen.
Instead, Porsche will choose to focus on premium models, such as the 918 Spyder in the pipeline. Rumour has it that the Stuttgart carmaker is also looking to revive the 928 – a two-door GT, to be positioned above the 911. The new GT will compete against the likes of Ferrari in the 300,000 to 400,000 euro segment.
