  • Saab attracts suitors

Bankrupt Swedish carmaker Saab is attracting interest from foreign companies, with India's Mahindra & Mahindra said to be leading the race

Bloomberg reported that Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, a maker of SUVs and a flagship company of the Mahindra Group, which is a multinational conglomerate based in Mumbai, India, is in private talks with Saab's administrators with regards to a takeover of the bankrupt Swedish carmaker.

The report says that according to people who are familiar with the situation, Mahindra & Mahindra is interested in "buying at least parts" of the bankrupt Swedish automaker. The Indian carmaker's spokesperson, Roma Balwani, declined to comment on the matter.

Aside from the Indian company, the same insiders said that there's also "at least one Turkish company" interested in investing in Saab. The move is believed to be part of the Turkish government's initiative to create a car brand of its own, and for that reason it is helping a local manufacturer to obtain at least some parts of Saab.
