Opel has put a name to its next big idea: The STX Concept. Short for Sports Tourer eXperimental, the show car will make its world premiere at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, giving the German brand's long-running estate-car tradition a forward-looking twist.
The badge is more than a neat bit of wordplay. "ST" links the concept to Opel's Sports Tourer models, while the "X" signals a more experimental approach. Opel says the STX will preview an aero-efficient estate, introduce its next-generation design language, and reveal features destined for future production models.
That direction is rooted in plenty of history. Opel helped establish the estate body style in Europe with the Olympia Rekord Caravan in 1953, and the current Astra Sports Tourer carries the idea forward with a flexible cabin, an illuminated Blitz emblem set into the Vizor front end, and up to 1,634 litres of load space. The STX Concept looks set to keep the practicality while turning up the visual drama.
It will share Opel's Paris stand with the GSE 27FE, the permanent all-wheel-drive GEN4 racer being prepared for the 2026/27 Formula E season. With more than 789bhp and energy recuperation of up to 700kW, it is the wild end of Opel's electric ambitions. The recently launched Corsa GSE brings that performance theme closer to the road, sharing its powertrain with the Mokka GSE and Mokka GSE Rally.
