Two fallen canopies at the Tuas Checkpoint caused a traffic snarl for motorists heading into Singapore from Johor on Wednesday (August 3rd) morning. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) had initially warned motorists of an accident that had occurred at 5:35am. It also advised motorists to avoid using the checkpoint.
In an update at around 10:00am, it apologised for the inconvenience caused to travellers and said that the canopies had fallen due to strong winds and heavy rain. A Malaysian motorcyclist and his pillion rider were injured and taken to Ng Teng Fong Hospital. "The traffic situation is gradually resuming to normalcy and clearance of the fallen structure is ongoing," ICA added in the statement.
ICA has urged motorists using the Second Link to check for the latest traffic updates via the Land Transport Authority's One Motoring website or the MyTransport.SG portal before starting their journeys. For safety reasons, it said arriving cars and motorcycles were diverted to other zones for clearance, and advised motorists to cooperate with officers on site.
