Had some reliability issue, luckily fixed during warranty period. Problems encountered
1. Change battery approx every 11 to 14mths.
2. Sensor faulty-car can't start, resolved after change. Due to car's weight, 2-liter will have better performance & FC.

I am driving a megane sedan 1.6 manual. The car feels very solid, and the doors close with a reassuring thud.
Once inside, it is very quiet even on highway speeds. You can have a nice conversation inside the car :)
Some wind noise do intrude into the cabin above 90kmh, but it is not loud. You can hear it only if the radio is switched off.
The car is very stable at speeds, and gives feeling of a very plush ride, but not floaty feeling like other 1.6L Japanese/Korea cars that I owned before. Basically, the stability gives you more confidence when driving and less stress.
The interior is made of high quality materials, which you won't find in other cars in the same price segment. I liked the built-in sun screens at the rear doors and rear window. Really useful if my kid needs to sleep when car is moving under hot sun.
I am still skeptical of the reliability and cost of maintenance once warranty is over, but given its current low price (it is cheaper than a Toyota Altis), I feel that it is worth taking the plunge.
The driving feel is really different from Japanese/Korean cars. It is really hard to imagine going back to driving Japanese/Korean cars after driving the Megane. Of couse, I guess higher end Jap cars like Lexus, Camry , Ceifiro will properly be as good, but those are much more expensive as well.
Another minus point for most people is the acceleration from standstill is not very fast, mainly due to the weight of the car. But it is decent enough for me and since it is manual transmission for my car, it is actually not that bad.
Overall, this car is suitable for people who like comfort and safety over performance, and don't mind living with some reliability issues. At the current price, it is properly the most value for money 1.6L car in the market. I think once the new Renault Fluence comes in, it will be quite expensive, so now is the best time to get this car at a good price if you are still considering it.

Hi All,
wrote this review to help those looking or deciding to get a Megane. Owned this vehicle for two years and finally gave it up only to get a MPV to accomodate my expanded family otherwise this is definetly a good vehicle to own as is packed with loads of features compared to rest of it class.

Has been close to 6 months since the car was bought.
Comfort - The cabin is quite roomy, leg space for rear passengers are also sufficent for those around 1.7m tall. My pregnant wife was seated very comfortably. The interior has been insulated so noise level is minimum.
Reliability - Not too impressed with the reliability though. Had a problem within the first week. However, no fault of Wearnes,it was a production issue. In fact, was very impressed by the service provided by Wearnes.
Handling - The Michelin PP2 tyres are excellent. The griping on wet roads has been excellent. Coupled with the electronically controlled steering, the handling is cxcellent. Maneuvering the car in tight spaces is a breeze. Cruising at high speed is very stable. Brakes performance is also excellent, the jerk when stopping at high speeds is absorbed very comfortably.
Interior design - Simple design. Not fanciful. Feels snug when seated. Alot of plastics used but feels quite solid.
Exterior Styling - The new spoiler gives it a better look. The silver side mirrors makes it stand out. However, it is dependent on individual.
Features - Cruise control and speed limiter is appealing but seldom used. The automatic headlights and wind screen wipers are definitely a plus. When moving in multi storey carpark, when it is dark, the headlights will light up. The six airbags are very reassuring. The NCAP 5 star rating also provides a peace of mind. A buzzer will also sound if hand brake is engaged when moving off or if the safety belt is not used.
Value for money - A DEFINITE YES. Bought the car at a price at the price of a japanese car. Insurance was also much lower than the two leading Japanese car AD quote. A good 20% lower at zero NCD.
Engine performance - Acceleration is slow so avoid the right lane at the traffic junction.

This is my first continental sedan car. The experience has been very satisfactory, both with the car, and also the sales consultant Eugenia. The car runs well & steady, and Eugenia has exceeded my expecatation with excellent pre and post sales services.

The salesperson Francis Lee service is good and helpful. Please look for him if you are buying the Renault car. It is stable when diving high speed. However initial acceleration is a bit slow and heavy. The exterior is nice and look like mini Mercs or BMW at the rear. The interior is spacious and rear passenger a lot of legroom.

So far the comfort and stability especially at high speed impress me. The danger is that it makes one unaware that he/she is driving above speed limit. The features for a 1.6 car at this price range is defintely one of the better packages out there in the market.
With its manual transmission, I can opt to rev up whenever I need and I don't get the draggy feeling that I had with the Auto.
So far the experience with the sales and service personnel at Wearnes is Good.
In term of fuel efficiency, it isn't the worst out there for a 1.6...but it's also isn't the best.
Good for it.

I had a very good sales experience with Renault. My sales person, Adrian Chong was very patient with all my queries, not at all pushy and kept me informed at every stage of the process. This was such a difference from my last car purchase. Would definately recommend him to my friends.
I like the drive of the Renault Megane. Definately a class above my previous Mazda 2.

Bought this car 2 months back too. Still happy and enjoying this ride. My family like this car too. Hence, definitely will recommend to friends looking for a car.
But bad experience with salesman J Tan. Definitely won't recommend friends to him.
My advice to buyers: look for a trustworthy sales consultant such as those recommended by some reviewers and also do some comparison before you sign. :)

Compare my last Honda Civic i driven and this Renault Megane much more stable during driving at 70km/h above but there is a delay when initial accelerate
moving off.

Just booked the new facelift 2009 model. I think for now, it's the best buy car for the price range, although the price has went up 2k compared to the last COE bidding.
I had very good experience with Grace Tan from Wearnes, she is very nice, warm and meeting my needs. Do look for her if you are thinking of getting a Renault.

Well, I got the new facelift 2009 model 2 months ago with pricing at 50+K range.
I think for now, it's the best buy car for the price range. Mainly for the safety, 6 air bags - and features - auto light, wiper and cruise control.
I had a very good experience buying the car as my SC from Wearnes is very nice and delivered whatever he promised me. Can't really remember his name now.. I think it's Adrian.. hopefully he is still around :)
This is my 2nd Renault car. Previously was driving A Renault Classic for 7 years. Now a Megane II.
Looking forward to the new Megane III - a beauty.
Actually the new Kia Cerato is value for $$ as well but after viewing the car up-close, Megane is way better.
Btw, if you get the car, ask for body color spray on the bumpers - looks way way classier. Ask for the free floor mat as well.. :)

Hi all, i have just booked my Megane Renault about a month back. Now awaiting the successful COE Bid. U maybe wondering what advice can i give at this stage after only the test drive perhaps?
Well just to warn others who may want to get a new renault about the poor sales services i have had so far... YES! Even now as i am only Waiting to get the new car. Well for one thing I am very unhappy is about the recent COE bidding whereby I understand from the salesperson that even when Renault have purchased a few open category COE, they will only offer to car owners like me who will top up cash of $2K! Isn't it suppose to be a first come first serve basis? Isn't the car price fixed with guaranteed COE included? There are still several issues i had while i am waiting for the car... sigh but downpayment already paid else I would really consider NOT buying the car. Yes just because of the reliability of the salesperson. A piece of advice... do not commit too early and know ur terms and conditions WELL :)

If you are planning to get a car to ferry you new born, soon be wife or to impress your in laws this is the car for you.
Both the interior and exterior offers great look and the comfort.
Given a well deserved polish, one may even mistaken this for a BMW. It has an executive look on the outside and interior is coupled with very good quality leather, equally stunning.
Safety for this car is unparallel. Given the number of safety specs / feature, the car is worth every single penny!
If you are looking for a car with pirority given to safety, get this car.
Good as a "day to day" car too...
But do not expect the car to "sprint" from one junction to the other. And watch out for the red light cameras, you may not be able to make it through at certain distance.

So many airbags and with an 5-stars NCAP crash test result, this car promises to keep you safe in a collision. Although the car doesn't make u feel like as if you are in a tank (think cars under the Volkswagen group like the SEAT Toledo, VW Golf etc), the thought of it's many safety features give you peace of mind.
