Been driving the Octavia Tour A4 1.6 for the past 3 years 7 months. Great everyday ride beside driving to work, it was the best tourer when I do my holiday traveling to Malaysia. Never once did it break down on me. That's what I call reliable.
Mileage currently is >100000km. Servicing was done periodically by AE which followed by external workshop.
1. Solid 1.6SR engine but required to rev more to get more out of it. The 4 speed auto transmission was smooth but sometime jerks which i do not like.
2. Interior was well built(nothing fell off yet). Cabin interior was quiet however, slight wind noise can be heard>100km.
3. Equipment function was ok with maxi-dot trip computer display on dashboard, door lights, leather seats, ABS, etc.
If I'm going to find a replacement for my current ride, will definitely look forward to own myself a Skoda again.
Been driving the Octavia Combi A5 1.6 for the past 6 months, and I must say it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. That's saying alot, coming from an EVO 9 and BMW 3-series as some of my past cars. It has all the things you need for daily Singapore driving, with very thoughtful features that are found in VW and Audi cars. The key fob has an auto boot lid, all-windows-up-down function. One touch power windows for all doors. Speed sensing wipers, maxi-dot trip computer display on dashboard. Door lights, side mirror indicators. It has many thoughtful compartments, cooler box in glove compartment, projector lamps, 4 disc brakes with ABS and traction control, and really much more.
That's just the features. The car is fun to drive - based on the latest Mk5 Golf, it handles very well and road holding is excellent. 6-speed steptronic gearbox is smooth and the 1.6 MPI (not FSi) unit is punchy enough but needs revving to really perform, still, it does the job well around Singapore traffic.
Roof rails and a huge boot space means packing in my two boys' bicycles, a picnic chair, 2 storage boxes and 4 carrier bags and my guitar amplifier is a cinch.
Regret not having the 2.0 FSi Turbo VRS though, that would make it the perfect car.
Wonderful car for driving everyday. My dad drives one. New basic model (Eastern Europe version) now available at an incredible pricing. Although it comes with manual windows and without remote locking, it has additional features like front fog lights and front arm rest integrated with rear air con vents. Do check it out at the showroom. This car is definitely very reliable to own. Try it to believe it.
Whilst somewhat bland in styling both interior and exterior the overall performance of the RS is outstanding. An extremely reliable car with very rapid and smooth aceleration through the gears. Road holding even at 240+km per hour is excellent even in wet conditions and road noise is minimal.
This is a driver's car and performs at its best when driven hard. Fuel economy is surprisingly good for a turbo charged engine. Overall a well engineered car with a solid feel.
Am very surprised not many ppl bought the RS. Ignoring the boring design, the vehicle is a blast to drive. 0-100 is fast (6 sec), and handling feels exceptionally comfortable.
A good vehicle of you want something different from the usual EVOs and WRXes.
