No doubt it was awarded 2005 RJC Car of the Year "Special Award for Best Mini Passenger Car" by RJC. For news (http://www.fhi.co.jp/english/news/press/2004/04_11_22e.pdf)
I have done quite extensive research on fuel saving car and my conclusion was subaru R2 was the best fuel effective car you can get in SG.
when a lot people will go for Honda jazz/fit as it is very fuel efficient, I bet a differ cause in city stop and go traffic, subaru R2 really outperform most of the vehicle sell in SG.
I myself is heavy-footed driver, after few month of recording, i found i still manage to get avg. 16-17km/l in mostly city driving which is Very Impressive...
You couldn't be wrong with this car if you looking for city driving car.

The R2 is a interesting car for those looking for a decent mini Jap car to carry 4 adults in relative comfort yet fuel economical and easier to handle and to park compared to other bigger Jap cars.

I personally owned R2 and use for about half year. I would say it is good car to own as the petrol will get higher and higher soon.
The main reason i brought this car it for it fuel consumption rate.it was outstanding in term of fuel consumption. it may hardly achieved the fuel consumption as stated in catalog, but if you really a conscious fuel saving light foot driver, no doubt you can get 16km/l 18km/l in city mixed mode driving. I personally achieved 23km/L during the trip to KL at cruise speed of 90km/h to 100km/h.
The sound insulation is good for car of this size, it is somehow near to saloon car(I owned toyota Vios b4)quietness at cruise speed.
it's interior space and quality is another reason i like this car. The color and ambient. i not really feel it was narraw or small, I always thought i sitting in 1500 cc car. The body of the car is quite solid for it's size. it will not squeaking even on uneven road surface.
The only weakness is the engine power, it may disappointing you if you're driving the bigger cc car b4. But it is still consider good for car at it class. it can accelerate smoothly to cruise speed if you only carry one or two person, but it still able to carry 4 person around town without much problem. you just need to press more on gas pedal.
I still a happy owner of this car, although it lack of power compare to my previous ride. but it always put a smile on me when i only spend $50 to get the 450km-500km mileage at the petrol price of $2 per liter nowadays

this car has great styling.... exterior n interior.
it used to come with 2 variants of FWD n AWD.... now just FWD
the only Subaru in singapore that doesnt come with a Boxer engine.... in-line instead
the economical fuel consumption will definitely give me more mileage even with only a 30litre tank capacity

I chose an R1 over the R2 simply because the R1 looked better!
But other than the look and extra two doors, both cars are very similar in performance and handling.
Easy to drive and park, a bit slow to pick up, but enough power for ramps with four adults in it. Ride is a little harsh, but par for course for such a tiny car. Steady at expressway speed, but overtaking is a little difficult due to slow pickup. Once up to speed, the car just hums along quickly thanks to light weight.
The extra doors make it a much more convenient option to the R1. Also, the R2 is slightly longer so rear seat passengers have more legroom than the R1 (in which passengers need to sit at an angle).
But this extra convenience and space comes at a discount! R2 is a little cheaper than its flashier sibling. It also comes in many more colours.
Great for folks who need a little runabout, need to carry up to three passengers of normal size and who are concerned about fuel economy and the environment!
Tad expensive for a car this size, though.
Reliability and support from Motorimage are first class. I've owned a Rex and an R1 and both experiences with the company were excellent.

A small and petit car that suits most female owners. I would say this model is one of the smallest cars that Subaru has manufactured. Before getting this car, I have been comparing this model with Suzuki swift. Nonetheless, I choose R2 due to its unique facelift.
