Come Sep 2012, I would have owned the CX7 2.3t for 5 years. Excellent car, great power and reliable. To date, I've not changed any parts apart from the normal regular service intervals parts change like oil filters, fuel filters etc. Only exception was the a/c compressor during warranty period. Fortunate enough to be riding on a very low depreciation car and would therefore make economic sense to drive it till the mandatory graveyard scrap.
Yes, the fc is a bit on the high side, but that would also be similar for any other t cars with the same capacity. It is partly the zest for speed that makes the fc high and it wouldn't make sense to buy this kind of car and drive it sedately. It's really all about the zoom zoom that Mazda brings.
I go up north regularly to Penang and this has been the best ride in my 30 years of driving up.
Fantastic looking car, which other SUV can look like a sports car as well. Definitely the only SUV I would ever consider, and its looks put it above its competitors by a mile! I must say I am a sucker for good looks, so this is always the first and foremost criteria for me when choosing a car. The "soul of a sports car" is definitely being taken to heart by Mazda in the latest 2010 incarnation of this model.
It also helps that it is quite zippy to drive around in, and would definitely fit the bill for most young-at-heart car owners.
Only wish that they had provided the option to include a further 2 seats in the back, if really needed from time to time (although probably given the sporty styling, they would not have been able to fit any reasonable-sized person in there!)
CX7 in a nut shell handles like a well balanced sedan car, although it rides high as a SUV should. It's turbo charged engine and AWD (in the 2008 model that I tried) ensures that it has enough pace to downshift and overtake most small and mid sized family sedans.
