2nd Gear
Most Unreliable Car I've Owned

Review

This is the 3rd BMW I have owned. Owned a 5 series and two 7 series.

What I can say is BMW is consistently churning out highly unreliable cars that requires constant attention. Sensors lights up like X'mas tree lights with unending minor issues (handbrake failure, steering issues, DSC, ABS, aircon, mirrors unable to fold / unfold, i-drive monitor white screen).

Mind you each minor issue seems to always cost $2,000 to $8,000 to rectify.

730Li - Still Wonderful !

It is almost a year now driving my 730Li. So quiet and comfortable coming from a 523i. Everything works. Engine and gear changes are super smooth. Most journeys are effortless. All the comfort features are in the current model plus more.

Very unreliable

After 4 years, the 740i had given me enough problems for me to swear it off my list... forever. After a bit of reading about these problems myself, I've learnt that it is not the dealer nor service centre at fault. This car is just way too complicated.

Pretty much like an inverted pyramid, being neither here nor there the 740i was designed with an unclear envelope - or vehicle limits in mind. Pretty much every part would fail, both electrical and mechanical and as the vehicle was planned with so much synchronous elements. When one fails and all must go.

In terms of servicing, as one of the most difficult cars to service, it would cost you time and money - and that's just something you can't live without given your short 10 year (or 5 year) COE lifespan.

I should have read up more about the car's problems before buying. I mean its not very BMW like to have so many unsolvable problems in one car.

The Lexus 460 would have been a much better option. No wait, what am i saying - The Bentley is the new 7 series! Don't waste your time on this till the next model change.
