Great Car, Lousy After Sales Service `

Great Car, Lousy After Sales Service Difficult to find 100 words to use about the services from Regent without slipping into the use of profanities. All elements point to the fact that although I have been a life long fan of Ford I shall not be buying another one all the time Regent remains the local distributor here in Singapore.

Bang for Buck `

Its been 6 months on since buying the 1.0T Focus Wagon and 10,000km has passed without a hitch. I have no regrets buying the car having compared the following cars: - Kia Cerato K3 - Mitsubishi Attrage (Soul-less) - Mazda 3 - Honda Fit - Honda Freed - Honda City - Toyota - Subaru XV - Nissan QQ - Actually every car within the 80k - 115k bracket at that point The ecoboost 1.0 engine punches far above its weight and is truly impressive. While its not going to shatter any records going anywhere, you never really get the sense that the engine is struggling at any point. With some cars, you get the drone of the engine running out of breath. It could partly be due to the good sound proofing. For this price bracket, I can't see anything being a better drivers car (ok except the Subarus). Its hard to give a 5 star rating on reliability since it is still new. To be determined!

I've the opportunity to rent a 2014 Ford focus for 2 weeks during an overseas holiday trip. I was given a 5 door hatch model and it's quite lacking in options due to the fact that it's a rental car. Driving position is good, though the seats are a bit hard, decent boot space but cramped at the rear. It's an easy car to drive around town due to the responsive 6 speed DSG and direct steering although there's some shuddering of the gearbox during start/stop traffic. Things get interesting once you get onto the twisty stuff, you'll be going faster and faster, turn after turn and I've totally forgotten that it's only 123bhp. Who says you need a serious performance car to have fun driving mountain passes. Overall, a good car with a terrific chassis to match.

Great road handling `

I drove a Focus in Europe for a day, clocking 600km. The engine was a 120hp diesel and should be close in performance to the 1.0 petrol offered in Singapore. The ride is on the firm side which I found very comfortable on highway but a bit shaky around town on uneven streets. The cabin is ok but nothing special about. Plastics are not great. Overall it feels a bit cheap. One think I did not like is the wide central console with sharp hard plastic at the edge. I tend to rest my leg against the console while driving on highway and it made that position very uncomfortable. Where the car really shines is the road handling department. The amount of grip and the composure in tight bends is simply incredible, at least on dry roads. Understeer is quite limited and it is possible to nail the throttle early and exit real quick. The engine was punchy enough to have a bit of fun. I should try an RS one day. This must be a hell of a ride.
