Good car , you no need to charge in order to drive. You can pump petrol all the way. If you wanna charge then you charge. That is the beauty of PHEV.
Technology - The first phev I heard to clock more than 1200km with >300hp on a 60km tank. The drive is opposite of the conventional hybrid, with motor as the main drive,so u are actually driving on ev all the time, silent and smooth. U can also control the car from your phone through their app, turning on the aircon 15mins before u reach your car. Auto sensor for wiper and climate. ADAS 2.0 with intelligent cruise control. Voice control.
Design wise is very thoughtful. Side with Evoque look, back with continuous led strip and front waterfall grill. More unique is the rear wiper, located just below the rear spoiler, avoiding the sun from degrading the wiper. Aerodynamics rims
Interior - inside, u feel spacious with it's all covered smooth to the touch materials. The seats are so comfortable u dont feel any ache or uneasyness on long distance ride. And most importantly, the "boss button", which driver can adjust passenger seat. That button before that only exist in korean premium cars. Arm placed on the window and center console is just right. Plenty of storage compartment. Ambient lights.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV delivers impressive value, comfort, and technology in a stylish package. For anyone considering a plug-in hybrid SUV that balances efficiency with premium feel, this is definitely worth serious consideration.
Been driving the J7 phev for almost 1 year till date. Collect end Feb 25 and after 35000km, have to say that the J7 is the best car that I have owned and driven! Drove 25K on electric and 10K on fuel.
The car can cover 1300 km with full battery and fuel. Unable to achieve the claimed 1450 km. The energy consumption is very good and my average is 13kwh/100km being a very light footed and with speed limit driver.
It is powerful and smooth. The engine charging the battery is hardly noticeable. Compared to the BYD equivalent, the J7 is much more enjoyable to drive.
The interior is somewhat minimalist compared to the BYD equivalent but then it makes the J7 more spacious, neater and less cluttered.
The ADAS 2.0 needs getting used to. Nowadays I hardly get any warning except when I exceed the road speed limit intermittently. I would say it is less intrusive to use. Love the adaptive cruise control especially on the NSH up North. The Lane Keep Assist is excellent as it disciplines me to signal everytime I change lanes.
I love the suspension as it is not the typical Chinese bouncy floaty feel but firm and solid like on my previous continental car ! However on bad roads it may become somewhat shaky.
In general, I am happy with my purchase. Only down side is the poor warranty coverage provided by the agent....in general it is 2 years or 30K for common electronic electric parts....sad !
I've been driving the Jaecoo J7 since March 2025, and overall it has been a very satisfying ownership experience. The drive is smooth and enjoyable, and the fuel efficiency has genuinely impressed me. By charging the battery every two to three days, I almost forget that the car even needs petrol — refuelling has become a rare event.
While the onboard technology may not be the most cutting-edge in its class, it is more than sufficient for my daily needs and works reliably without fuss. What really stands out is the combined horsepower and torque, which deliver strong and confident performance, whether in city driving or on the highway.
All in all, the Jaecoo J7 strikes a great balance between efficiency, performance, and practicality, making it an enjoyable car to live with day to day.
Looking around for a PHEV. Been shopping around but couldn't find something that catches our eyes.
J7 is simple and classy unlike others too fanciful. From ICE to hybrid. Monthly saving about $500. Road tax and insurance are almost the same as previous.
The benefit when travelling in Malaysia is that it can still runs on petrol. No worry of hunting for a charger.
Only wish that there are more boot space as compared to the previous RAV4.
Also more cavity for the car audio enhancement.
The J7 delivers a standout efficiency-led value proposition. With up to 1,300 km of combined range on a single tank and charge, it meaningfully outperforms expectations in real-world usability. Its EV-first driving strategy maximizes electric usage, lowering fuel consumption and enhancing daily driving economics. Coupled with a more favorable road tax profile than a full EV, the J7 strikes an optimal balance between electrification, flexibility, and cost efficiency—making it a highly compelling option in the PHEV segment.
Coming from previous BEV, I've been driving the Jaecoo J7 PHEV for a bit now, and honestly, it's a game-changer for the daily commute. The 90km pure EV range means I'm doing my daily routine and office trips without touching a drop of petrol. When I do take it on longer road trips, the 1,200km+ combined range is just insane—massive different experience on my previous BEV. The interior feels incredibly premium with that massive 14.8-inch screen and the Sony sound system. Never regret of changing to J7.
This car is an absolute beast when it comes to mileage. 1200km on a single fuel tank and charge is really no mean feat. And this car prioritizes EV drive over petrol, and you get to pay a lesser road tax then a conventional EV!
J7 has most of the features that I wished for in a car with the exception of autopilot and auto park.
Test driven the J7 as a possible replacement for an aging station wagon. Has a range rover evoque look (Chery builds cars for JLR ). A little short - 100 mm in length more may make it look more elegant. However space utilization is good despite being on 4560 mm.
Managed only the EV mode as test drives are a little too short to savour the full prowess of the car. Silent and strong torque and before you know it you are attracting a speeding summons. Steering a bit light and the rear view mirror was vibrating so the image was not clear. That was a bit of a disappointment. However with double glazing the car was very silent and ride comfortable but a little soft. Everything was controlled by the screen - felt like I was driving a large handphone!
Rear seats were comfortable and reasonable headroom in the rear as well.
Tested this model at Ubi. But first checked out the build and materials, which both I find impressive. The welding on the door frames are smooth and clean. Those sealant between mating portions are even and neat too. Interior has a lot of soft touches materials all round. In short, I don't have an impression of the car being budget like legacy offerings from Japs and Koreans. It is conti-like in terms of build, materials used and solidity.
Had 2 different test drive with Allan, who is very patient in explaining the various features of the car. I must I am very impressed with the overall drive and comfort of the car. The overall feel is good and while the price is almost the same as an X1, the plug-in hybrid technology is probably one of the leading brands in the industry.
Took a test drive and I have to say it exceeded my expectations in all areas. Chinese cars have really come a long way. It felt the same as some continental EVs and yet has the assurance of 1.5L turbo charged engine with a huge petrol tank. I can't understand how a 3 speed gearbox can work with a petrol engine but it was definitely a smooth drive.
Perhaps the menu system is potentially complicated as there is a (long) main menu and then within each menu item there are sub-menus... But I suppose after the initial setup, there won't be many settings that require frequent changing.
Interior is sleek and clean but some may find "Too" Clean? But all in all, where else can we get 340hp at below $250k without being an EV?
