Reintroduced in the exact same form with a larger suite of safety systems, the MG HS's mixture of sensibility and value remains hard to beat at its price.

I have my HS for about 3 years now. Absolutely love this car. Besides some software updates and a defective water reservoir for coolant, there are no other issues. It's safe, quiet and fast. Best value car I have owned so far.

Own the 2020 MG HS for about 2 months now.
Regrets came in less than 1 month into owning the car.
Headed to the service centre 2 times to address the same issues, with no improvements.
(changes gearbox mountings, steering rack and reset/reprogram ECU)

My 3rd SUV after a 2018 Forester and a 2016 Harrier.
Sadly, this is 1 of the the worse car (including saloons, hatchback and vans) I have driven in the last 20 years.

Why?

Basically, for me to rate a car, only 2 major factors;
1. Driving experience (3/10)
2. Features (8/10)

The MG HS scores super high on the features, which swayed my decision in getting this car (bad choice), without properly testing the on road experience.

Coming from a Harrier, the comfort and drivability of the HS do not even comes close to 40% Of what the Harrier offers on the driving experience.
Hard suspension, jerky transmission, delayed change in transmission, vibrations and occasional "Hang" Of the infotainment system.

Frankly speaking, I love this car for the looks, features and the spacious interior, but am extremely disappointed with how the car drives.

I spend a lot of time in the car travelling from point to point due to my work, and I never felt tired driving in my previous cars and always enjoy driving, but now, I just cannot wait to reach my destination and switch off the engine as the vibrations can really gets on you, physically and mentally.

Right now, I am already starting to look for any good deal to change out of the MG HS.

Unless something can be done to address the jerking transmission and horrific vibration, this is a car I will not be recommending.

Plus: never trust whatever "Official" Reviews and awards. They are probably paid.

What I like
1. The overall exterior and interior design
2. Electronic features
3. Panoramic Sunroof
4. Auto tailgate

What I do not like
The driver on-road experience.
- Crappy transmission at low speed, 0-40km/h. Jerks like no tomorrow, making the driver feels like a L-Plate learner driving manual. You either loses power on slope, or you surge forward when you do not control the accelerator in minute pressure.
- The vibration, idle and moving. You feel it on the steering, the accelerator and occasionally, the seats. No need for a massage chair, this is a massage chair on wheels. But seriously, at times, it felt like I am riding my 800cc motorcycle. Same vibration feel. Can be tiring if met with traffic jam.

The Best Kept Secret ... it delivers a new Orgasmic High!  Posted on 13 Jul 2023

Its now mid 2023 and I hv been reading the MG HS reviews posted for the past few years before I decided on getting one. Overall the plus-es far weighs the minus-es.

The key plus is the rather competitive price for the excellent value it deliver, as a reliable car which you can depend on for running around with your family and friends with little trouble. Love the luxury looking interior design and upholstery and the attractive exterior continental looking design (before the current facelift). The only thing I need getting used to is the DCT transmission.

Given all the goodies that comes with it, it remains a big wonder why its not flying off the shelves .... Perhaps its cos its one of the best kept secrets in the motoring industry? ?

Absolutely zero after sales service.
While drive is ok but when comes to after sales, it's close to non existence. 3 service advisors with poor attitude. Always trying to smoke owners.
Buy only if you are confident that two mechanics can do the all MG in SG.

If you're looking for no-frills motoring in SUV form, this is just it. The MG HS has the no fuss design and a competent drivetrain that ensures you always arrive at your destination ready to tackle what needs to be done.

What I like
It's comfortable to sit in and drive. The instrumentation is clear, and so is the infotainment system. And its reasonable spacious as well.

Drivetrain is prone to a little lag, partly from the gearbox, partly from the turbo, although if you're just moving along with traffic its likely to never become anything noticeable.

What I do not like
Nil. Overall, this is as safe an SUV purchase as you can expect to get with its well-rounded abilities.

The MG HS offers all those looking for a no-frills SUV handsome looks, a reasonably comfortable drive, and quite the plus interior. What's not to like?

What I like
There's handsome looks with this MG HS. It's charming, and not as awkward or garish as what some premium brands have stated to push out.

And the restrained touch continues into the interior as well, with plenty of nice soft touch surfaces and soft leather everywhere you care to look.

Start the thing up and its nice to motor along as well, reasonably quiet, with a fair amount of punch should you opt to mash the throttle. Expect nothing but a soft, comfortable ride all the way - prefect for those that just want any easy relaxing drive to and from work.

What I do not like
What's there not to love about the MG HS? It does what it says on the tin, it's a practical, sensible, not too flamboyant SUV that can fetch the kids to school and you too work all without ruffling any feathers.

If easy daily drives are what you're after this is a great SUV. Brand appeal or not.

I owned an MG HS 1.5T on 31th Oct 2020. I registered the car as PHV, after 14 months my car mileages already clock 96,000KM. My package is 20,000Km or one year free service and three years warranty or 100,000KM with ever come first. Recently my car engine got some noise so I drive the car to agent service workshop, when I reached the workshop my car suddenly can't start the engine. The service agent take few hours also can't find out what is happening. The next day they called me and inform that my car in very serious condition, need to replace the gearbox and the clutch. The waiting time for the replacement around 3 months, the worse thing is the coast at $20,000++. The service agent told me is because I using the wrong gearbox oil so cause the engine problem. They even told me their oil expert smell the gearbox oil already know the oil i changed from outside workshop is not suitable for my MG car. I bring my car to outside workshop for checking and the mechanic said my car engine nothing wrong, even if there is faulty repair coast the most is few thousands. Because of the useless service agent any how said my car in very serious condition and try to con me for $20,000++ so I selling off my MG car. I'm so disappointed with the MG service workshop, they only know how to do the normal servicing like changing oils...

What I do not like
The agent service workshop can't even know how to repair the MG car.

MG HS is by far the best car I have owned. Still loving it after 2 years. Engine is quiet, cabin is very stylist and modern. Well thought out cabin design with all the frills of a high end car ie. Sun/moon roof, sports seat, electronic seat adjustments on both sides, one touch window button, led lights, super sports button, etc. Price is affordable when I bought it at $99,888. No maintenance problems after 2 years of driving. Petrol consumption is reasonable, expected of a SUV at about average 12km per litre. Boot is of a good size and back passenger seats are roomy.

I am in my late 60s, a widower, a retiree and a person with physical mobility constraints.

It has been slightly over a year since I bought my MGHS and I am very happy and enjoying every moment driving it.

MGHS was never in my list when I was looking for a new SUV late last year to replace my saloon car which was due for scrapped.

Before heading down to the showrooms to view and test drive the various Continental, Japanese and Korean SUV brands that I shortlisted and within my budget range, my new SUV must have the following:

(1) electric tailgate that I can activate from inside the SUV as well as from the key remote control in my pocket to enable me to open and close to load and unload my mobility aid from the boot.

(2) Ample boot space to fit my mobility aid and other things without having to fold down any of the split backseats.

(3) Turbo engine.

(4) Paddle shifters.

(5) Driver seat that can be raised high to enable me to get in and out easily.

(6) Preferably with a panoramic sunroof which I can open and with all the windows wound down while driving at night to feel the breeze.

Although I drove passed MG showroom several times while test driving the other SUVs, I gave the MGHS a miss as it is manufactured in China, a new SUV in Singapore with no proven record on the reliability except reviews from the local motoring writers who had test driven the MGHS.

Unfortunately, none of the SUVs that I test driven did not have all that I wanted.

One day I decided to visit the MG showroom to view the MGHS and was instantly attracted and impressed by the sheer size and good looks. Not only does the interior looks premium with plenty of high-quality materials and finishing, the large panoramic roof which opens half of it is more than I have expected, spacious interior and boot space, it has all that I wanted.

The sales consultant suggested that I test drive it to feel the built quality and driveability and the next moment I was in the driver's seat ready to take it for a spin.

During the drive, I was pleasantly surprised that the interior was quiet, engine was very torquey with no turbo lack. The use of the paddle shifters in particular further added more fun to the drive.

The following day, I went down to MG and made my payment for the MGHS.

What I like
As mentioned in my review, it has all that I wanted.

What I do not like
None

I had my MG HS for a year now. I must say it's a very good car for the money with only small complaint. That is it's FC. I'm a light footer and uses ECO mode, still can't achieve 13km P/Lit most time 50/50 city/highway driving. After an ECU tuning during my last servicing, no more jerks from moving off. Everything else is good if not better than most other brands at this price range.

The MG HS has very much engine vibration that can be felt from the driving wheel and also at the accelerator padel. Never expect such poor driving feel from a new MG car. Feel like driving a diesel, Van.

What I like
Look great from outside. The interior is great too.

What I do not like
The MG temporary service centre and customer service have much room for improvement.

Review
Just collected this MG for few days only. Never bother to give any review on cars that I owed in the past years. Felt the need to share it for once.

Was driving a branded sedan for last few years used to all the comfort, performance and also the breakdowns. Also not forgetting the big loss in value over years.

Tested quite a number of SUV and crossover brand over the months, but wasnt happy with the function, performance, space or price. Watch all the oversea review and research, find it hard to be believe. Head down to view and a quick test on this MG, was surprised and decided to take the risk to sign it after thinking for 24hrs.

This car do feel the similar conti /branded comfort, with openness from the roof which other SUV don't offer. Performance cant compare to branded conti car but it just have the feel of a bit more power in there as compare to some popular 2L SUV. Back seat really comfort and spacey than others. Stock sound system surprising good, dun feel like a normal stock system.

Due to China made, can easily buy stuffs to dress up this car.
For people considering SUV should really go see and feel the real car not photo or video. For the price nothing much to complain for as a family SUV. In fact I felt this SUV is underprice.

What I like
Panoramic sun roof not just a glass roof
Interior finishing
Premium feel -soft touch almost everywhere
Sound system above decent
Back seat comfort and space best in its class I feel
Safety- Ncap 5
Drive on highway feel sporty on higher speed - stable and fast pickup.

What I do not like
Position of some control stick need some getting used to.
Steering control not as sharp as performance car but decent
Boot area a bit wasted, can be a lot bigger if boot cover was lower in design.
Reliability- cant find any big issue online but due to new in SG better get extended Warranty.
Top spec HS with full digital dashboard/2L/Bose system not available in SG
