The Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept previews a dynamic new design language and an array of innovative versatility and capability features - while also showcasing pioneering technologies from Jaguar Land Rover's advanced research division.
The Discovery is expected to spin off a new family of vehicles, which will redefine the leisure SUV category, and the Discovery Vision Concept offers a preview of Land Rover's vision for the range.
The Discovery Vision Concept highlights its unique lineage with design elements such as the stepped roof and alpine lights.
The interior boasts a whole array of innovative features - enhanced by highly reconfigurable seating.
By folding the seats flat or sliding them, via the touchscreen menu, the vehicle can be converted from its standard seven-seat layout to a six-seat, five-seat or even a four-seat 'limousine' mode.
The Concept also peeks into the advanced research projects, which are underway at Jaguar Land Rover - including a next generation Human-Machine Interface (HMI), allowing video calls between passengers and augmented reality to the entire glasshouse via Smart Glass, amongst other functionality.
Other projects include Remote Control Drive where a driver can remotely manoeuvre the car at very low speed, laser headlamps, and laser referencing, which utilises visible lasers to project markings, symbols and imagery onto ground surfaces.
Another advanced technology making its debut in the concept is the trending and innovative Transparent Bonnet head-up display system - which offers an unimpeded view of the ground immediately ahead, greatly enhancing driver ability and confidence.
Also, a Laser Terrain Scanning system utilises infrared lasers emitted from the front fog lamps to continuously scan the terrain and render a contour map on the high-definition instrument cluster display.
In addition, lasers are also utilised by the next generation Wade Aid sensory system to measure the depth of water even before the car enters a water body.
