Audi has successfully debut a low downforce variant of its R18 e-tron quattro race car that has been created with Le Mans in mind.
On top of an efficient powertain, aerodynamics plays a significant role in achieving excellent lap times with low fuel consumption. With this motive, a second low downforce body version made its debut at round two of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Spa.
With less aerodynamic drag, this second variant is perfect for the high speed nature of the Circuit de la Sarthe in France, where the 24 Hours of Le Mans is held every year. The new variant sports various differences. For instance, the body is now flush with the rear wing and fully utilises the maximum length of 4,650mm. In contrast, the high downforce version has a shortened body.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place from 14th to 15th June this year.
