Smart has unveiled its latest two-door and four-door city car - the Smart fortwo and Smart forfour respectively. While the new models retain the general cutesy looks, Smart promises that there have been substantial improvements done to the cars.
With extremely short front and rear overhangs, the fortwo and forfour have the smallest turning radius of any car. With a 100mm increase in track, the wheels are now positioned further outwards, which increases the agility and stability of the cars.
Smart designers refer to the evolutionary development of the silhouette as the 'one-and-a-half box' design. The change to the previous 'one-box' proportions was necessary to lend the Smart a more mature and sportier character.
The fortwo and fourfour will be powered by state-of-art three-cylinder engines in three states of tune - 60bhp, 71bhp and 90bhp. There will be two transmission choices on offer - a five-speed manual and a twinamic automatic dual clutch gearbox.
The new Smart generation will be launched in Europe in November.
