  • Lamborghini previews Huracan Super Trofeo at 'The Quail'

Lamborghini's next generation Super Trofeo race car, based on the Huracan, has made its world debut at 'The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering'.

After much teasing, Lamborghini has finally unveiled its latest racing machine - the Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo.

Lamborghini claims that the LP 620-2 was built ground up from scratch, and developed in collaboration with Dallara Engineering with direct involvement by founder Giampaolo Dallara. Dallara's history with Lamborghini dates back to 1963 when he worked as a Lamborghini engineer and later led the development of the legendary Miura.

The V10 heart of the new Super Trofeo was taken from the Huracan road car, but tuned to churn out 620bhp in race trim. Rear-wheel drive is also adopted to pave the race car's transition into GT racing. The hybrid carbon fibre/aluminium chassis ensures that the race car is ultra lightweight, tipping the scales at just 1,270kg. This also gives the LP 620-2 an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 488bhp per tonne.

The Huracan LP 620-2 will debut in all three (Europe, Asia and North America) of the brand's one-make 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series.
