Renault, the leading Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturer in Europe, has presented one of its latest models - the Twizy in Singapore. The two-seater runs fully on electric and is part of Renault's range of Z.E. (Zero Emission) vehicles.

The Twizy is immediately recognisable by its unique setup, which is almost like a motorcycle on four wheels. In fact, measuring 2,338mm in length and 1,381mm across, it is not much bigger than conventional bikes.

Driven by an electric motor that churns out 17bhp and 57Nm, the Twizy feels perky and agile on the go - thanks to a light weight of just 474kg. The batteries have a capacity of 6.1kWh, which will allow the Twizy to cover 100km on a full charge at a top speed of 80km/h.

Unlike other EVs, the Twizy does not require to be charged via a specific charging port. Instead, all it needs is any conventional three-pin socket, which will fully 'refill' the EV in just 3.5 hours.

The Twizy test driven during the media event is the sole example in Singapore. Renault Singapore and Wearnes Automobile, the authorised dealership for Renault cars in Singapore, are working together with local authorities to put the Twizy on our roads. But until registration and taxation issues are settled, the Twizy is not up for sale.

Renault is also working to put the Twizy on board the local TIDES scheme - a test bed for electric vehicles initiated by the Energy Market Authority and Land Transport Authority.
