Ahead of its debut at this weekend's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, BMW has released details of its Concept M4 GTS, a higher-performance version of BMW's two-door darling, the M4. The headlining feature of the GTS is the new water-injection system, a setup pioneered by the M4 Safety Car in the MotoGP series.
The Concept M4 GTS showcases new technologies set to debut in production vehicles later this year. The water-injection system offers the car a noticable boost in power and torque. The BMW Concept M4 GTS is also fitted with innovative rear lights featuring OLED (organic light-emitting diodes) technology, a new type of light source producing full-surface and homogenous illumination, giving the car an unmistakable appearance.
The Concept M4 GTS exterior sees several aesthetic and performance upgrades: the manually adjustable front splitter and rear wing - both in exposed carbon - ensure perfect aerodynamic balance, highlighting its function as a track machine. The attention to lightweight design also sees a Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) hood being fitted, lowering the cars weight and centre of gravity. A wide front air intake optimises airflow and minimises front axle lift.
"While the BMW M4 Coupe embodies the ideal combination of motorsport genes and unrestricted everyday usability, the BMW Concept M4 GTS previews an emotionally powerful and exclusive special model conceived with an eye for trailblazing technology and a keen focus on the race track," explains Frank van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. "Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road-legal. This is racing technology for the road in the truest sense."
Look out for the world premiere of the BMW Concept M4 GTS, taking place at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. More details on the production version to come.
