Lexus is introducing its new range of 2016 GS models at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, with a host of changes and improvements to the existing models. The big news is that Lexus is introducing a new rear-wheel drive, turbocharged model to join the current 350 and 450h models.
The new GS200t joins the lineup with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, coupled to a eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers 241bhp and 350Nm of torque, providing outstanding all-around performance and efficiency.
The GS350 has a more muscular 3.5-litre V6 that produces 311bhp and 379Nm of torque (compared to 306bhp and 375Nm in the 2015 model) and is also paired with an eight-speed automatic. The V6's combination of direct fuel injection and additional port fuel injectors ensure ample power and crisp responsiveness.
Leading the GS lineup is the hyperforming hybrid GS450h. Its Lexus Hybrid Drive system combines output from an Atkinson Cycle 3.5-litre V6 engine and a water-cooled permanent-magnet electric motor for 338bhp.
Other changes include a restyled front end with Bi-LED head lights as standard, giving it a night-time glow that is unmistakable. Multimedia technology has also been upgraded, and navigation comes standard for the GS350 and 450h. The new Lexus Safety System+ is also available.
