BMW's new plug-in hybrid 7 Series to debut at the Geneva Motor Show

BMW has revealed details of its new plug-in hybrid 7 Series, which will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show before going on sale in July 2016.


The 740e will be available in both standard and long-wheelbase forms, and will also have an all-wheel drive xDrive variant. In full electric mode, the car has a range of 40km (37km in xDrive form). BMW's Auto eDrive function allows drivers to choose how the 740e operates and features modes for pure electric driving and performance.
The plug-in hybrid 7 Series is one among a range of BMW plug-in hybrid vehicles, which will receive the new iPerformance model designation from July 2016. This provides a visible indicator of the transfer of technology from BMW i to the BMW core brand.
The iPerformance models will benefit from the transfer of technical expertise regarding electric motors, battery cells and electronic control systems. Visible indicators, meanwhile, are a BMW i logo on the front side panel, BMW i-style blue elements in the kidney grille and wheel hubs, and an eDrive logo on the C-pillar. Customers can also make use of the BMW i 360° ELECTRIC range of products and services, including the BMW i Wallbox.
